Ketching Up With Kiki

{March 5, 2010}   Jack

Jack is mine and my boyfriends 10 month old beagle/mountain cur puppy. We got him at 5 1/2 weeks old. He has been an amazing dog for the most part. He was house trained in no time and learned basic commands in a snap. Jack still has his rebellious moments like today when he ran off in my friends yard with a stray dog and refused to come back.

At his 6 month check up Jack weighed a whopping 38 pounds. We have not weighed him since, but I would venture to guess he is close to 50 pounds. He is has a brindle coat, beagle ears, a cur snout and barks like a hound dog. His tail also curls and looks like a question mark.

As of right now Jack knows these commands: sit, stay, lay down, come, jump up, shake, give kisses, high five, and the which one game. I have been working with him on roll over and take a bow. He is not a fan of roll over since he despises being pushed on his side. Yet he sleeps on his side or back all the time. Somedays I swear he is either part cat or part human depending on his mood.

{February 23, 2010}   Lessons Learned

In March 2008 I made the not so bright to decision to get a credit card. I had really good credit for a 19 year old especially since I had a car in my name. I was determined I would only use the card until I was able to get a stable job for the summer and pay the card off before the APR started rolling in…

Fast Forward to  Present Day:
My 19 year old ambitions worked out real well  who am I kidding they did not work out at all. I sit in lots of personal debt as in above $7000 all over a credit card that was way too easy to use. I am of course kicking myself in the butt now, but at the time I am sure my purchases were just to die for.

Last month my credit card company was so gracious to raise my APR 12% which sent me into a whirlwind..25% interest on a card I had not used in months seemed ridiculous to me. I called the company and screamed, cried, cursed at more than one person I got no where, figures. I decided to suck it up and tell my parents I needed help. I am prideful person and feel that since I got myself into this mess it is my responsibility to get myself out.

My parents agreed to pay the minimum payments until I start working again this summer hopefully at a job that will carry on until I graduate. Of course they wanted to see the statements and I was adamant that they not see the statements. I know I messed up and really did not need my parents reinforcing that point. I finally manned up and told my father how much I owed today. He suggested I call the credit card company, politely explain my situation and see if there was anything they could do to help me out.

I took his advice and spoke to a very nice lady who was more than willing to help me. She closed my account with my permission which means that my credit score is not affected by a bank closing an account. She was also able to lower my APR to 9.9% (huge help) and my monthly payment went down by over $90.

I now have my checking account set up so that on the 30th of every month a set amount will be taken out of my account. I am also able to pay more by mailing a check to the company which I plan to do once I do have a steady income again.

From all this mess I have learned that having a credit card is not for me. I use it too freely and do not think of the long term consequences. I believe I will stick to my debit card since I know how much money is in my checking account. I do hope to have my balance paid off before I go to buy a house which I think is very feasible.

For now I will focus on paying the balance and having less money to do things I want to do. I guess turnabout is fair play.

{February 16, 2010}   Vancouver 2010

The boyfriend and I have been watching the Olympics every night since the Opening Ceremonies. I personally love the Olympics. The athletes and their drive amaze me.

Thus far I have really enjoyed Figure Skating, Skiing, and Curling. I can honestly say I have NO idea how the scoring of curling works, the sport does not make much sense to me.

Ever since the untimely death of Nodar Kumaritashvili I have cringed every time a luge race is shown. My thoughts and prayers do go out to his family and all those who knew him. I do not understand the thrill of going almost 90mph on an ice slide of sorts.

As the games go on I look forward to watching more events and dream of one day being able to travel to Vancouver.

{February 9, 2010}   Ode to Boy Who Lives Above Me

Dear Boy above me,

I realize you have a crazy sleep schedule and apparently don’t go to school like the rest of us. I must say your stomping reminds me of a jackhammer. Your musics boom shakes my apartment.

You feel the need to smoke outside my window and talk incessently not to
mention your incredibly loud. I doubt your parents are paying for you to attend school 100 miles from home so that you can drink, smoke, and have parties all the time.

My roommates and I would really appreciate you toning it down so that we can get work done. If this noise persists we will report you to the office for the millionth time.

Much love from your downstairs neighbor.

{February 5, 2010}   Facebook Updates AGAIN

I feel like in the past year Facebook has been continuously changing and “bettering” Are these changes absolutely necessary?

As soon as I get used to one complete change Facebook goes and makes another one. I am tired of the continual updates and changes. I understand that they have to do updates in order to better Facebook and fix bugs, but is a complete overhaul every few months the answer?

How do you feel about the new Facebook changes?

{February 4, 2010}   Chances

How many chances do you give someone? Is there a limit or does it all depend on the situation?

I am the type of person who always gives others the benefit of the doubt. I have one “friend” who will talk to me about her problems all day long, but when she is having a good day I am blatantly ignored.

Why I keep putting myself through this is beyond me. I guess it goes back to giving people the benefit of the doubt. I also believe that since I have few girlfriends at school I tend to cling to the “good ones”

I am glad that my major has me working in groups in many of my classes so that I meet people I would have never met otherwise. Instead of dwelling on this person I will keep on moving forward, no use in losing sleep in someone who frankly doesn’t give a damn.

I wonder how HootSuite works for WordPress…I am going to have to do further investigating

{January 31, 2010}   I..what? iPad

I have to admit when I first heard iPad I really wondered if the head honchos at Apple had lost all sense. All I saw were spoofs of the iPad which were quite hilarious.

I first fell in love with Apple products when I purchased my iPhone in August. Since then I have longed for a Macbook. Sadly my budget does not constitute me purchasing a Mac computer anytime in the near future.

When I saw Stephen Colbert pull an iPad out at tonight’s Grammy awards I was amazed. Turns out Apple had not lost all sense instead just taken it to a new level. Now I am of course wanting an iPad which retails starting at $499 ouch…my poor little budget. I have champagne taste and a beer budget.

I would love one of these!

Someone PLEASE buy me one! haha I guess I can wait till I have a big girl job.

{January 24, 2010}   SuperBowl

AFC v NFC is always the “biggest game” of the season. I can honestly say I have seen better played regular season games than superbowls.

The match up will be excellent and I believe that the New Orleans Saints deserve to be in the SuperBowl.

I will be rooting for the Colts on SuperBowl Sunday.

I have loved Peyton since his days as a Tennessee Vol
